May 18, 2018 – Honor Flight Central Florida’s second flight mission of the 2018 season has a full manifest of passengers and is preparing for flight day. In less than two short weeks we will be boarding our flight at Orlando International Airport to head to our nation’s capital so our twenty-four Honored Veterans of WWll and the Korea War can view and reflect at the memorials built for them and their fallen comrades in arms.
We are pleased to be hosting hometown heroes from right here in Central Florida for a day we plan to be filled with honor and gratitude to those who deserve it most. Were it not for the brave and valiant men and women who fought to preserve freedom here and around the world, we would be living in a different place than the one we enjoy today.
We hope that at the end of their day, you can join with your friends, family and neighbors to greet our heroes with the fanfare to which they should be entitled. Bring signs and flags, and join the community to express your gratitude and show our thanks for their service and sacrifices.
We are returning to Orlando International Airport on Southwest Airlines flight #3500 due to arrive at 9:25PM, and are asking those who will, to meet up by the Starbucks in Terminal A at 9:45PM to greet our Honorees after their day of touring the Veteran’s Memorials and Arlington National Cemetery in Washington DC.
We hope to see you there! Remember, “we can’t all be heroes, because someone has to stand on the curb and clap when they go by”.
“I have just returned from an Honor flight on April 28. My heart felt thanks to all the Guardians and Volunteers who made this one of the happiest days of my life. I have never seen such an operation run so smoothly in my life. I am so proud and thankful to have been a part of this program. God Bless you all so much.”
Bill Broadhead, USMC – Korea War, April 28th Honor Flight Mission
“An amazing organization made up of volunteers that truly love their country, their fellow man & those that served! Thank YOU for the opportunity to honor my dad & the other vets that were on the April 28th Flight. I will never be able to share the experience with others without my eyes filling up with tears. An absolutely indescribable experience that left me proud of our country! Well done HFCF! Well done!”
Susan Ritenour Crosby – Daughter of Don Ritenour, an Honored Vet on our April 28th Honor Flight Mission.
Honor Flight Central Florida’s inaugural 2018 flight is set to go. We are blessed to be taking 24 Central Florida Veterans of WWll, Korea and Vietnam to our capital so that they can view and reflect at their memorials. We will be departing at zero dark-thirty and returning back in to Orlando International Airport via Southwest Airlines on Flight #4168 due to arrive at Orlando at 8:40 PM. We would love to fill the terminal with folks that appreciate our heroes every bit as much as we do. Its family time, so bring the kids and grand kids too. We love to make a great impact with a rousing home town welcome for our home town heroes! Bring American Flags and signs telling these honorees how much you appreciate their sacrifice and that it will never be forgotten.
Will Rogers said, “we can’t all be heroes because some of us have to stand on the curb and clap as they go by”. We hope you can join us in applauding our most Senior Veterans. Remember, our freedom isn’t free – and these are the folks to thank for securing it.
Hope to see you there!
We are asking our supporters and our Honor Flight Central Florida family and friends to help us by donating items we can raffle or auction at our upcoming Hot Rods for Heroes fundraiser on April 14th, 2018. If you have goods and/or services you can give, or gift cards & coupons please download the attached form and send it to us so we can add you to our growing list of donors and sponsors of this awesome event. We provide Honor Flights to our hometown heroes at absolutely zero cost to them. All they did was save the world and preserve freedom for all of us. Don’t we all owe them? Show them that their service and sacrifices will never be forgotten by supporting our mission to honor and provide closure to the most senior Veterans among us.
Give until it hurts – they did!
THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING OUR VETERANS AND OUR MISSION. REMEMBER, WE CAN’T ALL BE HEROES, BECAUSE SOME OF US HAVE TO STAND ON THE CURB AND CLAP AS THEY GO BY……

Saturday, October 7th is our first flight of the fall season. We are excited to be making the final arrangements to transport 24 of our hometown heroes up to Washington D.C. to view and reflect at the memorials built to honor them and all those lost in WWll, the Korean War and the Vietnam conflict. Eight Veterans who served during each of those wars will be honored for their service and sacrifices to our Nation, They served us in the Army, the Navy and the Air Force during pivotal times in our history. Our youngest Honoree is 70, and our most Senior Veteran on this Honor Flight is 97.
We need the public to join us in providing them a welcome home to show our appreciation and gratitude for all they have done to fight for freedom on behalf of all of us. We hope that you’ll be there to provide the welcome home these Heroes never got when returning home after their service to our Country. Our flight mission has us leaving Orlando International Airport early Saturday and arriving back Saturday evening at 9:55PM on Southwest Airlines flight 3639.

August 27, 2017 – Due to circumstances beyond our control, our September 16th Honor Flight Mission has been cancelled and split in to two separate, newly rescheduled Flight Missions on Saturday, October 7th and Saturday, October 21st.
After being informed of certain political rallies and protest occurring on the National Mall on September 16th, and receiving advise from the National Park Service Police of likely safety and access concerns as a result, and a recommendation to reschedule that day’s plans, Honor Flight Central Florida chose to split up the large group making the Honor Flight that day, in to two separate and smaller flights. With the safety of all of our travelers the primary concern, and unfettered access to the WWll, Korea and Vietnam Memorials an additional concern, the decision to make the changes was an easy one for our Board of Directors.
We are very pleased that the many points of contact we work with to organize and carry out our Flight Missions were able to accommodate a sudden and necessary change of our plans and look forward to the two newly announced Flight Missions. This allows all those who support our Welcome Home Events the chance to attend two very special homecomings for our heroes.
